Community Twinning Arrangement ![]()
Sha'arei Shalom Synagogue, twinned with Kehilat Har-El, Whitefield, Manchester Jerusalem England Israel In 2006, our two congregations, Sha'arei Shalom Congregation in Manchester and Kehilat Har-El in Jerusalem decided to formalize their friendship and "twin" their two communities.
Kehilat Har-El was Israel's Pioneer Progressive Reform Congregation founded in 1958 by a small group of Jerusalemites, originating from many different countries and all walks of life, led by the scholar and philosopher Prof. Schalom Ben-Chorin. The son of Prof Ben-Chorin was Rabbi Tovia Ben-Chorin who was instrumental in the formation of the Sha'arei Shalom Congregation in North Manchester in 1977, so it was almost inevitable that the synagogues should be twinned.
